The Washington Star editorially voiced approval today of official action against George Lincoln Rockwell and his American Nazi Party and said that this was the right procedure since Rockwell had become a public nuisance.
The paper was critical, however, of the protests that disrupted Rockwell’s meeting on the Mall last Sunday and asserted that “all the hecklers accomplished was to build Rockwell up.”
Rockwell was free today under bond of $300 for appearance in Municipal Court here on July 27 on disorderly conduct charges. Assistant Corporation Counsel Clark King asked at Rockwell’s arraignment yesterday that sanity proceedings be instituted.
Mr. King told reporters last night that he based his question on Rockwell’s sanity on a study of Rockwell’s preachings. He said “there must be something wrong with a man who advocates the extermination of an entire race.”
