The Liberal Arts College of Wayne State University, here, has established a Department of Semitic Languages and Literatures. Dean Victor Rapport, who today announced the decision to establish the new faculty, has appointed Dr. Abram Spiro as LaMed Professor to head the department.

The new department is an outgrowth of the college’s LaMed Chair for Jewish Studies. Prof. Spiro, who will assume his new duties in the fall, is now director of Jewish Studies for the Union of Liberal and Progressive Synagogues of Great Britain.
