Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, Secretary of State for the Colonies in the British Cabinet, denied tonight in the House of Commons that the recent Arab disturbances were inspired by persons using funds of the Moslem Supreme Council. The suggestion had been made by Col. Josiah Wedgewood, Labor member of Parliament.
Sir Philip also denied the Colonel’s assertion that the rioting was provoked by Arab landlords.
The Colonial Secretary expressed the view that the High Commissioner of the Holy Land can be depend-
ed upon to prevent any recurrence of the trouble there.
Mr. Wedgewood disclosed to the Commons that the Austrian government had addressed a communication to the English government regarding steps that might be taken to combat anti-Semitism. The communication was also said to be a description of the measures proposed for the Austrian government in its own war on anti-Semitism.
Sir John Simon, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, denied that he had ever received such a communication from the Austrian government.
