Shmuel Weissenstern, one of two yeshiva students serving prison terms for fire-bombing the Eros shop In Tel Aviv last July, was furloughed from prison for the weekend so that he could Join in the celebration of his brother’s bar mitzvah. The youth went to the Western Wall to pray after his release Friday and was cheered by hundreds of other yeshiva students who carried him on their shoulders.
Weissenstern and Yisrael Brand of Haifa, both 19, were convicted of netting fire to the shop that sells erotica and were sentenced to one year and 18 months respectively. Their imprisonment without ball prior to sentencing and the sentences which were pronounced by a Tel Aviv Judge last Monday sparked a series of street disturbances by Orthodox elements in Jerusalem and other towns.
