Two grants totaling $1,500,000 to promote higher education and scientific research in Israel have been awarded to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Weizmann Institute of Science of Rehovot by the Charles H. Revson Foundation of New York . Announcement of the award, which will be shared equally by the Israeli institutions, was made in a joint statement by Avraham Harman, president of Hebrew University, and Prof. Michael Selo, president of the Weizmann Institute.
Under terms of the four-year grant, funds allocated to Hebrew University will be used to create 12 new Charles H. Revson Fellowships for postdoctoral lecturers and to provide tenured faculty appointments for a small number of outstanding academicians. Funds designated for Weizmann Institute will be used to establish seven new Career Development Chairs to provide follow through support and research underwriting for select young scientists upon completion of their doctoral and postdoctoral studies.
