Weizmann Awarded Honorary Degree at Hebrew Union Graduation

That the formation of the Jewish Agency has changed the attitude of official Reform Judaism toward Zionism was evidenced by the fact that Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the World Zionist Organization, was awarded an honorary degree at the commencement exercises held today at the Hebrew Union College here. An honorary degree was also awarded to the Honorable Miss Lily H. Montague, of London, England, the secretary of the World Union for Progressive Judaism. The degree awarded to each was “Doctor of Hebrew Law.” A degree of “Doctor of Divinity” was conferred upon Rabbi Bernard J. Bamberger, of La Fayette, Indiana.

Sixteen new rabbis were ordained by Dr. Julian Morgenstrn, the president of the College. The invocation was made by Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, of New York, and greetings were given by the Honorable Alfred M. Cohen, president of the Board of Governors of the College. Ludwig Vogelstein, chairman of the executive board of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, spoke for the board, and Dr. David Philipson of Cincinnati gave the benediction.
