Weizmann Institute president Prof. Michael Sela called on the International Federation of Automatic Control Thursday to join him in a fight for the rights of famed Soviet cybernetics expert Prof. Alexander Lerner, who was recently prevented by the Soviet authorities from attending the Federation’s conference opening in Japan next week. Lerner, who has not been granted an exit permit to leave the USSR, has been appointed a member of the Weizmann Institute’s staff in absentia. His daughter Sonya, who studied at the Institute, has just returned from Moscow where she attended the funeral of her mother.
