The Jewish Welfare Board will participate as one of nine national character building agencies cooperating with the 1934 Mobilization for Human Needs in a Youth Today conference to be held here October 29. Two events, to be held at the Hotel Commodore, are planned.
In the afternoon a hearing will be held before a board presided over by Prof. Harry E. Overstreet, of the College of the City of New York, and including Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Newton D. Baker, Miss Ida M. Tarbell, Dr. Daniel A. Poling and the presidents of the nine character building agencies. Judge Irving Lehman has been invited as president of the Jewish Welfare Board. Youth in school and out of school, with jobs and without jobs, will testify at the hearing.
MISS TARBELL TO LEAD
The evening session will take the form of a dinner meeting, presided over by Miss Tarbell. Professor Overstreet will present an interpretation of the afternoon hearing and Mrs. Roosevelt, Mr. Baker and Dr. Policy will discuss the programs of the character building agencies in the light of the needs of youth.
The purpose of the conference is to analyze the features and successes of youth agencies of American communities during the depression and to discover how their programs should be planned to assist more adequately young people at this critical time.
