Wesley Clark appeared with a Jewish U.S. soldier to argue that a strike against Iran was against Israel’s interests. “One of its first immediate responses would be to trigger another attack against Israel by Hezbollah,” Clark, a former NATO commander and a likely Democratic candidate for president, said in a video blog posted Thursday. Clark said Hezbollah had rearmed with long-range rockets. “So I’m sure that the Israelis are looking at how to prevent this and protect against what we saw the last time, how devastating and demoralizing these rocket attacks can be,” he said. Appearing with Clark was Jon Soltz, an Iraq war veteran who said he was inspired to serve in the military when he saw Israelis serving during a visit there. Soltz said a strike on Iraq would in the short term cause more conflict on Israel’s Northern border region, “and I just can’t say that, you know, striking Iran unilaterally right now is in Israel’s best interests.” Clark said he fears the Bush administration wants to attack Iran. He recently deflected charges that a reference to “New York money people” pushing war was anti-Semitic.
