West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer today appealed to the U.S. authorities to postpone the executions of the seven German war criminals convicted of mass murder of Jews and others and to allow further review of the cases.
The wives of the seven condemned men already had made their final visits at the Landsberg prison when the appeal of Chancellor Adenauer to U.S. High Commissioner John J. McCloy was made public here. Told earlier that the final visits would be made yesterday, they were later given a 24-hour extension. Following the visits, the condemned man were isolated until they are called to walk to the gallows.
