The question of postponing or abolishing the statute of limitations which will protect Nazi war criminals from prosecution after it goes into effect on Dec. 31, 1969, will be subject of discussion shortly between West German Chancellor Kurt Kiesinger and Minister of Justice, Gustave Heinemann, a Government spokesman disclosed at a press conference here today. It is expected that the Cabinet will take up the matter afterwards.
The disclosure was made in reply to a question as to whether Chancellor Kiesinger planned to take any action following his meeting with Dr. William Wexler, president of B’nai B’rith in Bonn last week. Dr. Wexler had expressed concern that many untried war criminals would go free when the statute of limitations entered into effect.
