The Western Division of the Dominion Council of the Canadian Jewish Congress has endorsed the ouster of the United Jewish Peoples Order-a left-wing organization–from the Congress. The Western vote followed similar action by the Eastern and Central Divisions of the Congress.
Under terms of the approved resolution, the left-wing organization are not to be “invited to send delegates to” this fall’s national convention of the Congress, and are to be “refused permission to participate as electors of plenary session delegates.” It also provides further “that appropriate steps be taken as of this day to terminate the affiliation and participation of the left-wing organizations and like organizations, including the United Jewish People’s Order” with the Congress.
The left-wing organizations were accused of violating Congress discipline on such major policy matters as the stand on the Stockholm Peace Appeal and Canadian participation in the Korean war.
