Zionist leaders who have talked with members of the Permanent Mandates Commission expressed the belief today that the British White Paper on Palestine, which will come up for examination tomorrow, has no chance of being adopted by the commission in its present form.
Many points in the document, which serves notice of the British Government’s intention of ultimately creating an independent Palestine state with Jews fixed as a one-third minority, will definitely be declared incompatible with the mandate, the Zionists asserted.
Discussion of the new British policy will open with the arrival here tomorrow of Colonial Secretary Malcolm MacDonald. It was learned, meanwhile, that Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, is not coming to Geneva for the hearings. The Agency will be represented instead by Dr. Nahum Goldmann, its Geneva representative and Dr. Ben-Zion Mossinsohn, Palestine Zionist leader.
The Jewish Agency issued a statement expressing confidence in an impartial verdict by the commission.
