Six members of Congress and three mayors joined with eight Holocaust survivors last week to launch a national petition drive urging the Vatican to recognize the State of Israel and protesting Pope John Paul II’s audience with Austrian President Kurt Waldheim on June 25.
The petition is addressed to the Pope, who will visit the U.S. next September. It was initiated by the Simon Wiesenthal Center here.
