Wilfried Helmstaedter, a member of the Baden-Wuerttemberg Parliament, has called upon the provincial government to exclude letter combinations such as “NS,” “SA,” “SS,” and “KZ” which are reminders of Nazi tyranny, from car registration numbers. He said that a number of car registration offices had already withdrawn such letters on their own initiative, particularly as foreigners from countries which were occupied by German forces during World War II often take offense at such “reminders.”
