Women will have no right to participate in the elections for members of the official Jewish communities or kehillahs in Warsaw, according to the rules governing these elections just promulgated by the Polish government. Jews who have publicly opposed Judaism, that is atheists and Communists, will also be barred from the elections.
The new ordinance also regulates the elections of rabbis and the functions of the Jewish communities throughout the country. Uniform election of rabbis is also provided for. Elections of members of the kehillahs are to take place every four years. Rabbis will be required to have as a minimum secular education a diploma for an elementary school and no rabbi under 25 years of age will be permitted to serve as the official representative of a kehillah.
