The seventieth birthday of Simeon Dubnow, famous Jewish historian, will be celebrated here by a group of his friends and admirers on the 24th of this month. A conference of representatives of various Jewish organizations will be held here during the next few days at which the details of the celebration will be arranged.
Mr. Dubnow, who now lives in Berlin, was born in the province of Mohilev, Russia. In 1880 he settled in St. Petersburg, now Leningrad, where he became a contributor to the Russki Yevrei, a Jewish periodical published in the Russian language, and also to the Razsvyet, another Russian-Jewish periodical. In 1882 he transferred his literary activity to the Voskhod. Among his best-known works are a two-volume history of the Jews from the post-Biblical period up to 1882, and a history of the Jews of Poland and Russia. He is a fluent writer in Hebrew as well as Russian.
