Word has been received here of the death at a camp in Maine of William Levy, straw hat manufacturer and a leader in charities in this city. Mr. Levy was 74 years old.
Mr. Levy, who was chairman of the board of M. S. Levy & Sons, Inc., straw hat manufacturers, was one of the founders of the Baltimore Federated Jewish Charities, first president of the United Jewish Charities of this city, treasurer of the United Jewish Appeal and chairman of the Jewish Welfare Board of Baltimore. He was born in Manchester, England, and came here with his father at the close of the Civil War. He and his father were among the first to introduce straw hats to the United States.
