Authorities here today withdrew an order which was issued last week ordering instruction in all Wilno Jewish schools in virtually every subject to be given in Polish. School officials assured a Jewish delegation that the order was the result of a “misunderstanding.”
The order alarmed the Jewish community since it meant the destruction of the entire Jewish school system. Previous orders compelled the Jewish schools to teach certain subjects in Polish. The order of last week extended the list of compulsory subjects to include the entire curriculum.
