Heywood Broun, in his World-Telegram column yesterday, characterized as an “excursion into anti-Semitism” a remark of Governor Julius P. Heil of Wisconsin at the Republican Lincoln’s Day dinner on Monday night. In the course of his address, which was nationally broadcast, Mr. Heil was quoted as declaring his pleasure because all the audience appeared to be composed “of Christian ladies and Christian gentlemen.” Mr. Broun said this remark called forth the most fervent applause of the evening.
