Unity among the Jews is near and no one, no matter how highly placed, will be allowed to stand in the way of this unity, Rabbi Stephen S. Wise declared in an address to two thousand women, members of the Philadelphia chapter of Hadassah, yesterday afternoon.
After paying tribute to French hospitality to the homeless German Jewish refugees, Rabbi Wise pleaded for a similar token of hospitality by the United States.
“Let America,” he said, “admit five to ten thousand refugees yearly just as a token of friendship. If that is too much to ask, then I am sorry, not for the refugees, but for America.”
Rabbi Wise also denounced Germans for their conduct toward German Jews and declared that to give Germany permission to rearm would be nothing short of suicide.
