The trial of 39 officials of the Vichy Commissariat for Jewish Affairs continued here today with a prosecution witness, Prof. Marcel Prenant, Professor of Biology at the Sorbonne, describing conditions at the concentration camps under the jurisdiction of the Commissariat.
Prof. Prenant described the murder of Jews at the Neuengamme camp where, in the absence of gas chambers and crematoria, the guards stoned, clubbed and starved children to death. The Professor also spoke of the Commissariat’s appointment of an uneducated “professor” to teach on the “Jewish question” at the Sorbonne.
At the trial of seven members of the Paris police who formerly served with the Jewish Section of the Paris Judicial Police, a number of Jewish lawyers rounded up by the collaborators and shipped off to the Drancy camp testified for the prosecution. Details of his arrest were related by Edmond Bloch, an attorney and president of the Association of Mutilated War Victims.
