Forty Arab notables, including the Muktahrs of the neighboring villages, were summoned in the hearings on the imposition of the collective punishments on Safed. Abcarius, a Jewish proselyte, appeared in behalf of the Arabs. Captain Faraday and other police officers were the principal witnesses for the prosecution, which called three Jews on behalf of the kehillah.
The Mufti of Safed appeared for the defence. Judge Colville stated that for the present he was examining rather than judging.
Investigation of the Arab villages around Beertuvia with a view to collective punishments was also begun by examining-magistrate Miller, while the investigation of the villages in the neighborhood of Motza will start Friday.
