Wm. Fox Becomes Film King with Loew Merger

William Fox has become “king of the film industry with his acquisition of the interests of Loew’s Inc. which in turn controls the producting company, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Confirmation of the reports of the merger was made in a statement given out by Mr. Fox. The transaction brings under the control of the Fox interests a total of more than 450 motion picture theatres throughout the country, together with two complete motion picture producing enterprises. With his Fox Film Corporation. Mr. Fox now heads the largest interests in the motion picture industry. The assets of the corporations amount to $225,000,000 it was estimated.

The stock acquired by the Fox interests includes that held by Nicholas M. Schenck, president of Loew’s, who will continue in that position. In the statement given out by Mr. Fox it was said:

“William Fox started in twenty-nine years ago at the age of 21, with capital of $1,666,66.” Before that. Mr. Fox was a cloth sponger.”
