Mr. Lucien Wolf, of the Joint Foreign Committee, has replied in the MORNING POST to the statement of its Russian correspondent, quoting the Berlin NAKANUNE that ‘the Jewish Church is enjoying in Soviet Russia complete freedom’.
“I do not suppose”, he writes, “that you would place so much reliance on an assurance from the same source that the Christian churches in Russia are suffering no persecution. And yet this assurance has been officially given several times during the last few months in the same emphatic terms as those which you quote from the NAKANUNE.
“As for the ‘immunities’ of the Russian Jews specifically referred to in the communique cited by you, ” Mr. Wolf concludes, “all the information reaching this country is to the effect that they do not exist. Jewish rabbis, teachers and seminary students have been compelled to fly accross the frontier into Poland owing to the Soviet persecution, more particularly the sequestration of synagogues and the closing of religious schools and academies. By a special order of the Polish Government these fugitives are assured the asylum preserved for political refugees.”
