Wonderful changes have occurred in Jewish life since the first pogrom broke out at Elizabethgrad. 50 years ago to-day the first pogrom broke out at Elizabethgrad. 50 years ago to-day the Palestine Hebrew daily “Haaretz” writes, recalling the anniversary of the beginning of the Russian pogroms.

The Jewish people have since that time become nationally-conscious, and filled with the vision of deliverance, the paper says. We have a long road still to travel, it concludes, but we have gone part of the road, and the going is no longer as difficult as it was.
