Three high-ranking Israeli army officers left for Geneva this morning to finalize the details of the new Israeli-Egyptian interim agreement in Sinai. They are Gens. Herzl Shafir, chief of the General Headquarters Branch; Avraham Tamir, chief of the planning branch; and Col. Shimon Levinson, chief liaison officer with the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) in Sinai.
They will function under the guidance of Ambassador Mordechai Gazit, head of the Israeli delegation that signed the pact with Egypt in Geneva a week ago. The talks will start tomorrow, The Israeli-Egyptian working teams have the job of drawing up the guidelines for the permanent Israeli-Egyptian military committee that will oversee the practical details of the agreement.
They will also have to decide the timetable for the transfer of the Abu Rodeis oilfields to Egyptian hands; the location of the proposed American-manned early warning radar station in Sinai; procedures of Israeli movement to and from its surveillance nation at Umm Hasheiba; the methods of joint Israeli-Egyptian usage of part of the road to Abu Rodeis; and a timetable for the Israeli withdrawals from various points in Sinai. Israeli officers who are expert in various fields will be on hand to assist the Israeli team.
