A petition urging the adoption by the United Nations of a declaration that Jews be allowed to practice ritual slaughtering without legal interference, was submitted today to the U.N. Commission on Human Rights by representatives of the Agudas Israel World Organization.
At present, Shechitah is prohibited in Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Poland and Costa Rica. The petition was presented by Rabbi Jersmiah J. Berman and Rabbi Michael L. Munk. It was received by Prof. John P. Humpherey, director of the Human Rights Division of the United Nations.
