A two-day conference of religious organizations will open at Strasbourg tomorrow to create a commission of religious organizations of World Brotherhood, a new organization formed here last night after a four-day conference, which was attended by over 150 delegates from 12 nations.
World Brotherhood was established to promote “amity, understanding and cooperation” among peoples of various races, religions, nationalities and cultures. The movement is an outgrowth of the National Conference of Christians and Jews in the United States.
Endorsing the formation of the body, Dr. Isaye Schwartz, Chief Rabbi of France, declared: “At the present time, when so many clouds are accumulating on the horizon, there is no task more holy and more necessary than that presented to us.” Among the members of an interim committee formed at the conference are Everett R. Clinchy, head of the National Conforence of Christians and Jews; Roger Strauss, chairman of the board of the American Smelting and Refining Company, and Arthur H. Compton, American educator, scientist and pioneer in atomic research.
