World Jewish Congress affiliates all over the world were urged in a statement issued here today by Dr. A. Steinberg, director of the WJC cultural department, to join in the celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Sholem Aleichem.
Dr. Steinberg recalled that the late Sholem Aleichem played a pre-eminent role in Jewish literature “as the inseparable companion of the Jewish people in their joys and in their sorrows.”
