The World Jewish Congress here today denied a report published in a local Jewish newspaper to the effect that negotiations have taken place in various East European capitals between Soviet officials and a Jewish community leader on the subject of Jewish emigration from the USSR.
The WJC emphasized that, to the best of its knowledge, such reports are without any foundation. “The World Jewish Congress regrets the publication of such reports which are calculated to give rise to hopes which may be disappointed,” the statement said.
