Delegates from Jewish communities in ten South American countries attending a South American Continental Congress of the World Jewish Congress here last night decided to launch a strong counter-attack program on anti-Semitism in Latin America. The program will include representations to all Latin American governments to help keep out racist propaganda from abroad.
The parley was opened this week-end by Dr. Ricardo Dubrovsky, president of the DALA, central representative body of Argentina Jewry, who said that the Jews in Argentine enjoy full rights and freedom, but who emphasized that “there are thousands of Nazis and Fascists in South America who can start serious trouble at any moment.” Dr. Dubrovsky also stressed that “our fate is tied to the fate of Israel we are its rear guard.”
Dr. Arieh Tartakower, special Latin American representative of the W.J.C., yesterday told the delegates that “Jewry does not accept the tendency to break world Jewry into two opposing sections of East and West. We will not give up for lost our brethren behind the iron curtain. In a report on anti-Semitism in Argentina Dr. Tartakower said that the Argentine Government would be asked to ban the anti-Semitic German language publication “Der Weg.” The delegates supported this announcement by a formal vote.
