The Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle praises the American Jewish Committee for its stand on the question of Jewish self-elimination from public office. The paper says:

A number of misguided Jews in recent months have been privately advocating complete Jewish self-elimination from public office as a method of counteracting rumors that Jews “control” this and that governmental agency. In this connection it is interesting to note that the American Jewish Committee takes cognizance of this situation in its recent annual report in the following words:

“Those who hold such a view evidently do not realize that such a procedure would be an admission of the false charges or an approval of the institution of a racial or religious percentage system in connection with appointment to public office, in the place of the traditional sound American principle of conferring office upon those best able to do the work, regardless of their creed or ancestry.”

We are in hearty agreement with this position. We have expounded upon it at length in our denunciation of the “numerus clausus” idea as applied to the acceptance of Jewish students in the medical and other professional schools. No Jew is worthy of the name of Jew or man who will not exercise his God-given talents to the service of his fellow man in any field and under any circumstances. If there be prejudice against the Jew. let the Jew combat it not by complaining or protesting but by doing better and finer work and service than he ever did before.

SAYS COLONIZATION HOLDS WORLD SPOTLIGHT

The Jewish Press of Omaha Neb., comments on the problem of Jewish emigration and colonization, as follows:

Jewish emigration and colonization continue to hold prominent places in the world spotlight. Two new organizations were formed for such purposes during the past week. In England, a group led by Sir Robert Waley Cohen formed a corporation known as Jewish Resettlements Company, to aid refugees to rehabilitate themselves. In Paris, a new world organization, EMCOL, Association for Jewish Emigration and Colonization, was established to promote the ends designated in its name.

Russian Biro-Bidjan, South America, parts of Africa and, naturally, the Jewish homeland in Palestine—all offer some opportunities for settlement of Jewish homeless wanderers. But, it takes huge sums of money to colonize and settle the emigres even after a suitable place is found. The rest of the Jewish people, better situated than their unfortunate brethren, are seeing the necessity for lending the aid necessary to transplant whole bodies of people into new homes, a task which is extremely difficult but which must be accomplished.

JABOTINSKY’S VISIT BRINGS COMMENT

Jabotinsky’s visit to the United States has been marked by wide comment in the Anglo-Jewish press.

The Detroit Jewish Chronicle says editorially:

All devotees of the cause of a rebuilt Palestine naturally hope that Mr. Jabotinsky’s current visit here will be marked by a spirit of cooperation rather than the type of destructive criticism which has been a synonym for Revision. In order that true cooperative unity may be achieved, it is to be hoped at the same time that the Laborites will not lose their own balance and adopt the methods of tactlessness which have marked the efforts of Revisionism. A bit of tolerance during the visit of Mr. Jabotinsky will not harm the Histadruth and will not make capital for Revision, but it may serve as a means of clarifying the air charged with dynamite and may create a better spirit of unity and undivided effort for the upbuilding of Palestine.

HAS “SINGLE OBJECTIVE”

The Jewish Criterion of Pittsburgh says editorially:

Jabotinsky will not be impeded. Relentlessly he has carried on toward his single objective. He doubtless regrets, as do we, that among a single people working in a common cause there should be so much dissention. He must deplore the political fratricide and the alignment of Jew against Jew. Yet there is no time to despair; much has been left undone. He has a task ahead, and disregards his hecklers.

It is to the Schenley Theatre that you should direct your course on the night of February 3. There you will find a great personality, of tremendous zeal and with the Jewish Neshomo in his heart.

LIKES “INTESTINAL FORTITUDE”

The Chicago Sentinel, in an editorial, writes:

Whatever else the hard-hitting Revisionist Zionist chieftain, now in our midst, lacks, he markedly resembles the elder Roosevelt (and the present incumbent of the White House as well) in the matter of the highly desirable quality characterized by Americans as “intestinal fortitude” (not commonly credited to Jews), and that is why he continues to be a dynamic figure with an irresistible appeal to all who are content with nothing less than action and results. In this respect he is unique among Jewish leaders of our time, rendering invaluable service by the not to be discounted and despised opposition he can be depended upon to provide within as well as without Jewish life.
