The St. Joseph Gazette, St. Joseph, Mo. daily, in an editorial entitled “Fallacy of Racial Purity,” says:

Probably no country in the world has better demonstrated the strength that comes from mixing the best racial strains than the United States. In the veins of the average American is mingled the blood of the Gaul, the Celt, the Teuton, the Anglo-Saxon and the Mediterranean peoples. The results of this melting pot are fairly obvious.

Our mixed blood probably gives most Americans a skeptical attitude over the policy announced by Julius Streicher, the notorious German anti-Semite, who says his government is preparing to ban all marriages between “Aryans” and “non-Aryans,” meaning between Gentiles and Jews. This would be, of course, the logical outcome of the Nazi demands for “racial purity,” whatever that may be.

The Germans’ conception of themselves as “Nordic” people is absurd. Many of the greatest Germans have been of Jewish or foreign blood. There is no peo-people in the world of an unmixed descent. Look at the racial invasions that have swept over nearly every country in the Old World or the New. England is part Norman and Dane. Northern Italians bear the stamp of their Lombard ancestry. People of Irish blood are in evidence wherever ciyilization has penetrated. History reveals, indeed, that pure racial stock is practically non-existent and that usually it has been immeasurably improved by mixture with other good strains.

There is no basis in fact for the racial purity theme of the Nazis. It seems to be another of the singular delusions with which the Germany of Hitler is filled.

STRESSES IMPORTANCE OF ZIONIST CONGRESS

The Zionist Record of Johannesburg, commenting on the importance of the forthcoming World Zionist Congress in Lucerne, writes:

There can never have been a moment when deliberations upon Zionist affairs held a greater significance for the Jewish people than today. There has never been a time when world events have brought such convincing evidence, even to the most skeptical among our people, that in Palestine and the Jewish national movement is to be found the key to the Jewish problem. A Zionist conference must therefore command the close and universal attention of all Jews, however remote or even non-existent may have been their previous knowledge of or association with the Zionist cause.

LONDON PAPER VIEWS ANTI-SEMITISM

The Sunday Referee of London, commenting on the question of anti-Semitism, says:

Men hate most the enemy that is present in themselves. Does there exist a Jewish usurer so vile as to deserve the condemnation of anti-Semite canaille of the type of Hitler, Goebbels, and Goering? I think not.

Do Jews of the worst type wield an evil influence on the world? Perhaps. Do Gentiles of the worst type wield an evil influence on the world? Certainly.

Where does race come in? Nowhere. The roots of the evil lie in the social system which persecutes enlightenment and transforms all things into property, into money power.

In this system the Jews are less powerful than the Gentiles. Hitler would still be whitewashing latrines if this were not so.

From Maimonides to Einstein the Jews have been divided and persecuted by the very forces which a brainless anti-Semitism maintains they control. If world power fell into their laps they wouldn’t know what to do with it, because their future is bound up with the rest of mankind.

REICH ACTS AT HOME BELIE PEACE TALK

The London Daily Express, in an editorial on Germany, writes:

Hitler denies that he wants war. He denounces bombing from the air. He assures us that Germany has no aggressive aims.

In Germany the Protestant pastors still go to prison. Collectors for Catholic charities are assaulted by the Nazi Brown-shirts. Jews are chased from their homes and livelihoods—simply for being Jews.

No business of ours, you say.

Perhaps not. But are you ready to believe that a government which knows no method save force at home really believes in reason and moderation abroad?
