Rabbi Leo Baeck, retiring president of the World Union for Progressive Judaism, was honored here last night on the occasion of his 80th birthday and his retirement, at a dinner sponsored by the Union.
Reform leaders from South Africa, France, the United States and a Liberal Rabbi from Jerusalem presented him with gifts expressing the appreciation of Reform Jewry for Dr. Baeck, Chief Rabbi of Berlin before and during the Nazi regime. In an address to the dinner, Dr. Baeck predicted that Progressive Judaism was paving the way for a new era in Judaism.
