A review of the situation of the Jews in devastated Europe and in Palestine was given last night at the World Trade Union Conference by Berl Lecker, delegate of the Palestine Jewish Federation of Labor.
Emphasizing that the Jews are the only people to whom the right of “freedom from fear” has been denied, the speaker described the extermination by the Germans of five million Jews and added that a million surviving Jews will neither be able to remain in their native lands, nor return there. He asked that the remnants of European Jewry be enabled to enter Palestine, and urged that the Conference ask for the abolition of the Palestine immigration restrictions for Jews.
Reporting on the achievements of Jewish labor in Palestine, the speaker compared the standard of living in Palestine with that of Egypt and pointed out that Jewish immigration to Palestine does not harm the Arabs. He stressed the cooperation which exists between the Histadruth and the Arab Workers League in Palestine and concluded by saying that “Jewish labor expects help from international democracy.”
