Newspapers here are raising the specter that some of Rome’s traditional business establishments will be bought up by oil-rich Arabs. The fear arises out of the sale of seven of Rome’s most famous top quality restaurants by unidentified owners. Columnists have speculated that Arabs, probably Libyan exiles, plan to start a chain of restaurants, hotels and bars. “This will only add to the depersonalization of Rome,” one commentator moaned.
