Incensed by the insinuation in a series of articles published in a tabloid daily to the effect that all marriage brokers are racketeers, Louis Rubin, of 1575 Eastern parkway, Brooklyn, plans to revolutionize his ancient calling by instituting a licensing system aimed at weeding out “undesirable elements.”

In this connection he made an attempt to see the Mayor yesterday and not finding him in, left a letter reciting the “honorable history” of his occupation since Biblical days. The letter told of the happiness which the better-type schadchen has been bringing into the lives of countless men and women seeking to be married.

Rubin has engaged David Berger, of 1176 Broadway, as his counsel in the project and is seeking to enlist the support of atleast a dozen other marriage brokers. His plan is to bring about the passing of a licensing ordinance which would require those running matrimonial bureaus to put up a nominal surety bond of say $500 and to give evidence of character and fitness when applying for the license.

When he called at City Hall yesterday, he was referred to Alderman Edward Curley who heads the licensing committee of the Board of Aldermen.
