Maurice Clavel, a well-known writer and philosopher, appealed today to “the Jewish and Zionist conscience,” to “condemn and put an end to counter-terrorist methods.” Clavel, writing in the left-wing paper “Combat” was referring to the explosion last Friday which seriously injured Mahmoud Hamshari, the Paris representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization. There was no evidence that Israelis were involved in the incident.
In an article entitled “Word To Israel,” Clavel, who described himself as “a one-time defender” of Israel, warned that co anti terrorism “could only end in the destruction of Israel which would take place in an atmosphere of general indifference or a vague pity.”
Meanwhile, the French Zionist Movement today condemned “all forras of terrorism.” In a communique, the organization expressed regret over the growth of “an anti-Zionist campaign fomented by those who applied the Munich massacre.”
