Labor Knesseter and former Minister of Education Aharon Yadlin has resigned his Knesset seat after 14 years in the House. He told reporters he would be returning to Kibbutz Hatzerim in the Negev. His place will be taken by another Kibbutznik, Zev Katz of Kibbutz Gesher.
Yadlin served in the early 1970s as Secretary General of the Labor Party and was considered a protege of Golda Meir. He survived unscathed the embarrassing conviction and imprisonment of his cousin, Asher Yadlin, on bribery charges.
Yadlin explained that he had been under pressure from his kibbutz to return there full-time. He indicated he expected to be elected kibbutz secretary. In that capacity, he said, he would seek to promote close consultation between the Negev settlements and the army on the future of the region after the Sinai pullback.
