The presidium of the Knesset decided today that the election to choose a successor to the late Joseph Sprinzak as Speaker would be held March 2 amid speculation that the new Speaker might be the first Yemenite to hold that post.

The date was set following the final refusal of Moshe Sharett, former Foreign Minister and Prime Minister, to accept the position. The most frequently mentioned alternative among Mapai leaders was the Yemenite Deputy Speaker. Yishayahu Sharabi.
