Yeshiva College is planning a broad series of extension courses beginning this fall in its buildings at Amsterdam avenue and 186th street. Dr. Bernard Revel, president of Yeshiva College, in making this announcement Friday, declared:
“The general movement for adult education, which has in many institutions of higher learning developed extension departments of extraordinary magnitude, is a fundamental Jewish conception. For the continuance of education beyond the school life, as a duty of the individual, is a Jewish ideal, and the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake— Torah Lishma—is the essential principle of Jewish education.”
Though the projected courses will concern themselves largely with Jewish history, literature, and tradition, a number of courses of a general nature will be included. Lectures on trends in modern philosophy, economics, government, appreciation of art, English and comparative literature, recent history and the principles of psychology, will be given.
The present faculty of the college will act as instructors in the extension department. Dr. Revel will remain at the college during the summer to plan additional courses and interview prospective students. Special students, not candidates for degrees, will be admitted to most of the courses.
