Yitzhak Rabin’s assassin held a jailhouse circumcision ceremony for his son.
Wardens allowed Yigal Amir to be joined at Rimonim Prison on Sunday by his wife, Larissa, his newborn son and about a dozen carefully vetted guests for the brief ceremony.
The event, which coincided with the 12th anniversary of Prime Minister Rabin’s assassination, stirred outrage in Israeli left-wing circles. Protesters scuffled with Amir supporters outside the jail.
The Prisons Service said the circumcision was held with a minimum of celebration. Amir had failed in his bid for a furlough to hold the circumcision outside of prison.
According to Army Radio, the Amirs named their son Ynon Elia Shalom.
