Soviet Georgian activists have sent an Israel Independence Day message to the Jewish State, it was reported by the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry. The message said:
“On behalf of many Jews who are not free to express their feelings, we wish to extend to the State of Israel our most sincere congratulations on Yom Ha’atzmaut, the anniversary of its independence. On April 21, 1948, the founders of the State of Israel proclaimed in their Declaration of Independence that the Jewish State “will rest upon foundations of liberty, justice and peace as-envisioned by the prophets of Israel.”
“In its 29-year history, the State of Israel has maintained these Ideals in the establishment and development of a free and open society. Israel’s principles of equality and freedom continue to inspire and give hope to Jews of Georgia and Russia, both those who wish to make aliya and those who wish to remain in the Soviet Union. Am Yisroel Chail–the Jewish people live. Masada will not fall again!”
The signers were Dr. Grigory Goldstein, Dr. Isal Goldstein and family, Solomon Ginzberg, and two others identified only as Kzheli and Tvaladze, the SSSJ reported.
