In New York, the Board of Rabbis, comprising 850 Orthodox, Conservative and Reform spiritual leaders, called today for a spirit of “self-examination and confession of sins and crimes committed against the Jewish people in the past and in the present;” In line with a policy adopted four years ago by the New York City Board of Education, public schools throughout the city will be closed on Yom Kippur.
