Yosef Tekoah, Israel’s 42-year-old former Ambassador to the Soviet Union and, previously, to Brazil, has been named as Israel’s permanent representative and Ambassador to the United Nations. He will succeed Ambassador Gideon Rafael, who will return here to become director-general of the Foreign Ministry. Both nominations were made today, and are expected to be confirmed soon.
Mr. Tekoah has been, of late, deputy director-general of the Foreign Ministry. Educated at Harvard University, he had previously served as director of the Foreign Ministry’s armistice affairs division. He had also served two years as Israel’s acting permanent representative to the United Nations.
