Eli Baer, one of the youngest successful Baltimore attorneys, was today appointed U. S. District Attorney in the Virgin Islands, a federal job paying $4,800 yearly.
A graduate of the University of Maryland, Mr. Baer received the endorsement of Democratic leaders throughout the State. U. S. Senator Millard E. Tydings is said to be responsible for the appointment.
At 18 Mr. Baer taught Hebrew in Talmud Torahs here. He was orchestra leader on a vaudeville circuit at 19 and a department store manager at 20. He is a member of the Elks, Moose, Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias, Eagles and Red Men.
