Nine New Yorkers were awarded the annual prizes given by the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods for the best contributions of the year to the Young Israel Magazine. Eleven awards in all were announced in the fields of fiction, non-fiction, music, poetry and art.

Judge Charles P. Daly, who died in New York in 1899, was often invited to be the orator at important Jewish functions because of his highly friendly interest in Jewish affairs.
