Young Judaea clubs and councils throughout the country are making elaborate preparations for the observance of Jewish Arbor Day, also known as Chamisho Osor B’Shevat, during the week of February 9. Public celebrations will be held by all groups, more especially in the larger Jewish communities.
The principal celebration will take place in the city of New York, at the Washington Irving High School auditorium, Wednesday afternoon, February 12, in which several thousand Young Judaeans are expected to participate.
Among the speakers at the rally will be Dr. Israel Goldstein, rabbi of Temple B’nai Jeshurun, and president of national Young Judaea, Mrs. Archibald Silverman, vice-president of national Young Judaea, and Samuel J. Borowsky, executive chairman of Young Judaea.
The national office of Young Judaea has issued a special program dealing with Chamisho Osor B’Shevat, which is now widely observed because of its connection with revived Jewish life in Palestine. On this festival the Jewish youth of Palestine engages in the planting of new trees, which is encouraged and made possible by a special fund of the Jewish National Fund.
