The Refugee Economic Corporation announced today that it has engaged Dr. Stanton Youngberg to direct the settlement of an initial group of 600 to 800 refugees on the Island of Mindanao in the Philippines. He will embark on the steamship Klipfontein from Los Angeles on Thursday to take up his duties.
Dr. Youngberg was executive secretary of the Mindanao Exploration Commission, which was sent by the corporation and the President’s Advisory Committee on Political Refugees earlier this year to explore the possibilities of large-scale refugee settlement in Mindanao. For many years he was director of the Philippine Bureau of Agriculture and was on the staff of the Governor General as advisor on agriculture and animal husbandry.
